Celebration at Chipweptwete School kitchen Opening
The opening ceremony was glorious. Education officials, village chiefs, governing bodies, parents, teachers and children gathered for speeches, singing, dancing and, of course, porridge on 10th July to celebrate the opening of Chipweptwete school kitchen. The feeding programme, which began in January in a temporary shelter will be now sustainable over the rainy season and the kitchen can also be used as a classroom once the porridge has been cooked each day.
Each day, volunteers from the community collect water and wood before making the porridge in two huge pots each serving 300 children. Porridge is served at 9.30am to all the children, 600, who have attended class from 7.15am. The porridge means improved concentration for the rest of the day.
