Over the past year, Hope4Malawi’s relationship with partner schools and local education advisors has grown significantly. This area of growth has been particularly impactful.
These partnerships are helping us work more closely with schools and respond to the real challenges teachers and students face.
In the photo above, Sara (Hope4Malawi trustee and Hope4Development director) and Andrea (Literacy Coordinator for Hope4Development) are meeting with the CPEA (Co-ordinating Primary Education Advisor). The CPEA oversees primary education for 165 schools across the rural Blantyre area.
Building strong relationships at this level is key to creating broader, long-term impact.
In October, we hosted a meeting for the head teachers of our partner schools, alongside the Primary Education Advisors (PEAs) working in the area. This has now become a regular meeting, providing space for head teachers, PEAs, and our team to share challenges and work together on solutions.
A coordinated approach to learning English
During one of these meetings, teachers highlighted a need for more professional development, especially in teaching English. In response, we agreed to organise a teacher training session.
The training was hosted by the Primary Education Advisor and brought together Year 8 teachers from across the area, including those from our partner schools. It was a valuable opportunity for our team to learn from local teachers about English assessment. We also shared ideas for making lessons more engaging.
Teaching in Malawi is often delivered through lecture-style lessons. Students typically take notes during these sessions. We explored ways to make learning more visual and kinaesthetic, helping learners engage more actively with the material.
The teachers responded positively, and we hope this training will have a meaningful difference in classrooms.
We’re looking forward to running more training sessions later this year and strengthening these partnerships further.
Can you help a child in Malawi?
Thanks to the support of our partners, sponsors, fundraisers and volunteers, Hope4Malawi's Youth Development programmes, building projects, resourcing initiatives, and student sponsorships continue to provide life-changing opportunities for children in rural Blantyre.
