Celebrating end-of-term success at Chimwembe Primary School

On Friday 25th July, we had the privilege of attending the end-of-term assembly at Chimwembe Primary School, one of Hope4Malawi’s four partner primary schools.

The assembly brought together teachers, parents, community leaders and local representatives, each sharing a common message: encouraging children to continue learning, behave well during the holidays and return to school ready for the new term in September.

The Headteacher, William Iwen, reflected on the past year, spoke about preparations for next term and reminded both learners and parents of the importance of good behaviour and commitment to education.

Leonard Bengo, Chair of the PTA, encouraged parents to continue guiding and supporting their children during the school holidays, while a representative from the local MP reinforced these messages. Andrew from our team then shared an encouragement from the Bible, reminding everyone of the value of wisdom, perseverance, and hope.

One of the most moving moments came from the local Chief, who thanked both parents and Hope4Development for their continued support of the school. Although primary education in Malawi is free, government funding is often not enough to meet the needs of schools. The Chief encouraged parents to keep supporting the school where they can and expressed his appreciation for our programmes, saying they are helping to transform the lives of learners.

The Deputy Headteacher, Diana, also thanked parents for understanding the need to support the school. She celebrated the excellent results achieved this term while encouraging parents of children who struggled to continue supporting and encouraging them rather than becoming discouraged.

Bringing the community together to inspire learning

The highlight of the morning was celebrating the learners' achievements. Class results were announced, with the top three students from each year group receiving gifts from Hope4Development and the MP in recognition of their hard work.

As the names of every child who had passed their exams and would continue their education were read out, proud parents came forward to celebrate—dancing with joy, congratulating their children and even presenting small gifts and tokens of appreciation to their teachers. It was a beautiful picture of a community celebrating education together.

At the end of every school term, we join each of our partner primary schools to celebrate the learners’ achievements and recognise their hard work throughout the year. These assemblies are a wonderful reminder that educating a child takes a whole community.

These assemblies are about so much more than handing out prizes. They are an opportunity to recognise the learners’ dedication, thank teachers for their commitment, encourage parents in the vital role they play and remind everyone that when a community works together, children can flourish.

We are so grateful to partner with schools like Chimwembe Primary and look forward to seeing the learners return after the holidays, ready for another term of learning and growth.
