SCOM stands for the 'Student Christian Organisation of Malawi' and is focused on building a united group of young Christians who are committed to evangelism and discipleship. We train and equip students to live as witnesses of Jesus Christ both on campus and beyond.
SCOM is similar to a Christian Union and takes place every Friday afternoon at Hope Secondary School. We have about 40 students in our group, and two teachers who attend each week. Most weeks, it is led by me or Harriet, from the Hope4Development staff team, but the students also enjoy leading their peers. We play games, hear God’s Word, and encourage one another.
My name is Andrew Kapulula. It is by the grace of God that I serve as a leader at Hope Secondary School SCOM. It is such a blessing to witness the amazing changes in the lives of young people and to hear wonderful testimonies about what the Lord is doing among the youth at Hope.
Although we are a group of students from different church backgrounds, it’s beautiful to see how God is bringing our hearts together. He is truly being glorified in everything we do.
To explain a bit about what we’ve been doing, we started by learning the basics of Christianity (the foundation of faith). We are now using a booklet to guide us through this topic. It has helped many students break free from a religious mindset and experience true freedom in Christ through His Word.
On the first day, I preached about salvation, and eight students gave their lives to Jesus. It was an amazing moment! Other students also came forward with personal struggles, such as addiction. We prayed for deliverance, and it was a powerful day.
This movement has helped many students grow in accountability and their relationship with God.
I want to thank you all for your prayers. We have been hearing from Mark and Sara that you always remember us in your prayers. We truly appreciate your support.

Can you help a child in Malawi?
Thanks to the support of our partners, sponsors, fundraisers, and volunteers, Hope4Malawi's Youth Development programmes, school building, resourcing projects, and student sponsorships continue to provide life-changing opportunities for children in rural Blantyre.
