Appeal update – first school desks delivered

The money raised in our Christmas Appeal for school desks is already making a life-changing difference for children in Hope4Malawi’s rural partner primary schools.

Thanks to everyone who kindly donated, the first consignment of desks was delivered on Friday, 21st March, to three primary schools in rural Blantyre. The desks are for Standard 4 students at Chimwembe, Standard 5 at Mafunde, and the two new classrooms at Chipwepwete for Standard 7 and 8.

This wasn’t all plain sailing, as the delivery truck carrying the 120 desks broke down on the way. But the issues were resolved, and the desks arrived safely.

Imagine the excitement on Monday morning when the children found out they no longer had to sit on a dusty floor in school.

While there is still a need for more desks in the four primary schools that feed into Hope Secondary, thanks to the generosity of donors in our appeal, we are much closer to achieving the goal of all children being able to learn at a desk.

Prices in Malawi have increased substantially recently, with inflation running at 30%. Since we last bought desks, the prices have doubled because the raw materials are imported. Another order for desks will be placed later this year.

Would you like to support our appeal to give children a desk to sit at in school?
