September is an exciting time for Form 1 students at Hope Secondary School. Many come from vulnerable families, but all have hopes and dreams of a better future. The teachers identify those who are in the most need, and they are put forward for sponsorship.

The Hope4Development team in Malawi undertakes individual assessments to determine the level of support required for each student. Meetings with teachers and students continue throughout the school year, or when further student support is needed.

This September, Hope Secondary School will become a two-form entry school, opening to 100 Form 1 students, which is 50 more than last year.

This latest development will provide more opportunities for children in the villages to continue their education. However, this also means that more children will be accepted, whose families may not be able to pay the school fees.

We would love to enable all selected students to attend Hope Secondary School by supporting those who need it.

There are many shining examples of students who have thrived as a result of Hope4Malawi's sponsorship programme and are now in employment, some working with Hope4Malawi, or continuing their education.

Sponsorship provides life-changing educational opportunities

Hope Secondary School sponsorship is just one of Hope4Malawi’s sponsorship programme options. The programme also provides life-changing opportunities for students to continue their education at National or District secondary schools and universities.

Clive Khomani, a graduate from the Youth Development Programme, reflects on his time as a sponsored student:

“I would like to express my gratitude for what Hope4Malawi has done for me. It has been a good journey for me since we met in 2021. I thank God for this opportunity. Margaret is my sponsor, whom I respect and greatly appreciate.

Margaret and her family have been with me every step of the way – from Form One to the end of secondary school, through the Youth Development Programme (YDP) up until now. She is like my grandmother from another continent.

My journey through school would not have been possible without Hope4Malawi and the support of Margaret and her late husband, Angus.  It is not easy to help a person from another country, especially one who is not related. This family helped me at any cost without expecting anything from me.

I didn’t know where my life and my future would end up. I could have failed to reach even the MSCE level on my own (at the end of secondary school) because my parents could not afford to do anything for my school.

When I started the Youth Development Programme (YDP), I didn’t realise that it was very important to our lives as youth. This programme has been transforming me in many ways, both spiritually and mentally, and helping me to develop good character. I must also mention improving my English speaking, too.

Before joining this programme, I didn’t even care about others. I was doing what was good for me, although it was hurting others. I didn’t care because I was lacking integrity and love within me. Through this programme, I am a changed person. I always love God and others, and my relationship with God is now good.

I will always be grateful in my life for what Hope4Malawi and Margaret have done for me."
