Sponsor a student at secondary school or university

Imagine a life without access to education. In Malawi, one of the poorest countries in the world, the government provides free primary education for children aged 6 to 14. Families are responsible for covering the fees and expenses associated with sending their children to secondary school.
Children from vulnerable families drop out due to financial, family and cultural pressures. As a result, only 20% of children attend secondary school, with even fewer from rural communities. Students who pass the Primary School Leaving Certificate often miss out because of the cost of secondary education.
Hope4Malawi's sponsorship programme offers transformative career opportunities for children in rural Blantyre. Sponsorship supports bright, hardworking students during their secondary or tertiary education, enabling them to excel and realise their potential.
Statistics indicate that a child who completes secondary education in Malawi can earn enough to escape poverty.
Sponsor a student and give the gift of education
Hope4Malawi is grateful to its UK and overseas sponsors who generously support vulnerable students, enabling them to remain in education. This could be:
A student selected for a National or District School. These students perform well at Hope4Malawi’s partner primary schools but are selected for a secondary school that is not local to them. This will likely be Lunzu Secondary School, a boarding school that costs £35 per month. The highest achievers may be offered places at national boarding schools in other locations.
A student at Hope Secondary School, the local Community Day Secondary school. Costs £25 a month.
A student at university. University sponsorship is offered to Hope4Malawi-sponsored secondary school students who excel and are accepted into a university. Costs £100 per month.
Students from Hope Secondary School and sponsored students at National or District secondary schools are invited to join the Youth Development Programme at Hope Skills Centre for the year after they graduate from secondary school.

Supporting students through secondary school and beyond
Every September, a new group of students begins their secondary school journey, and Hope4Malawi is always delighted to welcome new sponsors.
Sponsoring a child offers hope for a brighter future and can transform their life. Secondary school sponsorship lasts four years, from Form 1 to graduation at the end of Form 4.
Your donations provide more than just financial support for school fees; they also supply resources such as exercise books, stationery, and school uniforms.
Caring for the wellbeing of the sponsored students in the programme is paramount. The Hope4Development team in Malawi monitor each student’s progress and provides mentoring and emotional support.

Our sponsors also receive progress updates. Exchanging letters is encouraged as it inspires students to work hard in their studies. This routine builds supportive relationships.
The students enjoy receiving cards, letters and pictures. The simple act of receiving a letter motivates them as they feel supported and cared for.
Hope4Malawi’s university students who were sponsored from the start of secondary school often refer to their sponsors as family. They feel like they know them, even if they've never met.
